Geelrys (Yellow Rice)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup long grain rice
  • 4 cups boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons turmeric
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Directions

  • 1 Place rice, water, brown sugar, salt, turmeric and cinnamon stick in a pot.
  • 2 Boil over high heat 20 minutes.
  • 3 Drain excess water.
  • 4 Add remaining ingredients and steam rice until soft and fluffy.
  • 5 Remove cinnamon stick before serving.
