Southern Butter Rolls

Ingredients
- 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 2 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 1/2 tablespoons active dry yeast
- 1 1/2 cups cold water
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Directions
- 1 Mix together flour, sugar, salt and instant yeast.
- 2 Mix in Shortening.
- 3 Mix in Water.
- 4 Turn out onto a lightly floured surface and knead by hand for 20 minutes.
- 5 Cover dough with vegetable oil, cover and let rise for one hour.
- 6 Form 24 smooth round rolls and place in greased 13x9 baking pan.
- 7 Let rise again for 45 minutes.
- 8 Bake at 400 degrees for 12 to 14 minutes.
